Vertu Foundation Profile
Vertu Foundation is a philanthropic foundation that seeks to connect directly with the economically challenged young women and girls who had kids at an early age in order to assist them rediscover their hidden qualities and potentials. Vertu enable young women and girls become positive contributors to their families and communities. At Vertu Foundation, we provide livelihood training and promote social entrepreneurship to improve the lives of the young women and girls to enable them become change agents in their families and communities.
Working through our three pillars: Education, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Empowerment, Vertu recognizes that empowering young women and girls is key to a strong, vibrant community and a good platform to driving real and lasting change. We believe that a young woman with a mind full of knowledge and a deep self-respect, is better equipped to speak her mind clearly, step out of her comfort zone, set clear boundaries, know she is worthy of going after her dreams and being a part of healthy relationships. All qualities necessary to making decisions for a positive, healthy, involved and successful life.
Community DevelopmentVertu Foundation believed that a strong educational establishment is crucial, but it is also particularly important to involve the whole community into the process of analyzing and assessing the major needs that might be stopping them from becoming more sustainable, healthy and productive.
Community Engagement is essential to the success of any development project, and it has, from the beginning, been an integral part of the work the Vertu Foundation engages in. By establishing an honest and transparent dialogue with the young women and girls in the community, we are able to identify and activate important actions that result in positive change for all.
Since the beginning of our work, we have provided free education to a great number of young women and girls who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend school or rediscovered their full potential in the communities we serve. Children Education, at Vertu Foundation, education is not only a right but also a passage to human development. It contributes to fostering peace and economic growth as well as improving health and reducing poverty. Nevertheless, many people living in many communities in Liberia still do not have access to education – in particular women and girls are suffering from a lack of opportunities.
We believed that through early investment in children’s development, we can support them in having a respectable start in life – helping them to become independent, self-confident and be a positive human wanting to shape the world for the better. When talking with women – no matter in which part of the country we were – their major concern was always to get a good education for their children so that they would have a better life with more options to choose from. Our focus is to provide quality education and to create a support system that allows the young women and girls to have a good start in their career – we want to show them how wonderful curiosity can be, and above all, how fun learning can truly be!
We believe that if we empower young woman and girls by improving their social, economic and educational opportunities there will be a ripple effect of development across the community, contributing to make real change happen. Investing in young woman and girls means investing in the future of their children, families and the communities. For young women who are not interested in schooling; entrepreneurship training is the foundation of our work – but it does not stop there. We encourage the women to be self-sustainable by getting work opportunities or starting their own businesses so that in the long-term they can operate independently of us and be self-sufficient. The focus lies, among other things, on education, sewing, baking, cooking training, which allows them to be productive in society.
